Physical therapy continuing education (CE) is required in most states in the US for physical therapy license renewal. The CE should be relevant to the practice of physical therapy for the CE course completed to be accepted. Some states also require physical therapist assistants to undergo CE as a condition for their renewal of license.

How many hours of continuing education should you complete?

The number of contact hours of continuing education that you should complete depends on the state you are registered in. It can vary from state to state and may range from 10 to 40 total contact hours.

Some states require a lesser number of hours of continuing education. However, you have to complete the total contact hours on a yearly basis. Some areas require 40 contact hours, but you’ll have to complete it within two years.
