You may need to rest your shoulder or modify your activity to avoid stressing your already injured shoulder. After your symptoms subside, you may start performing gradual shoulder exercises. A physical therapist can help you find the best shoulder exercises based on your specific problems.

Taking pain relievers such as ibuprofen may also help relieve your pain and inflammation. Ask your health care provider how much pain reliever you can take and for how long.
