Your quadriceps muscles, sometimes referred to as quads, are the muscles located in front of your thigh. They are connected to your patella via the quadriceps tendon. The quads tendon continue downward to attach to the upper front part of your shin bone (tibia).
Your quads is composed of four muscles: the rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, and the vastus intermedius. Together, these muscles help straighten your knee such as when you stand up.
Your quadriceps can be injured when it is stretched beyond its limit resulting in strain or tears.
